Filing Bankruptcy, Losing House

August 24, 2002.
Please pray for this married couple.  They are fellow Christians.  The wife is struggling with many feelings in her marriage right now.  She has been married for several years, and has wonderful children.  She and her husband are in the process of declaring bankruptcy.

And now her husband is talking about selling their house as well.  She takes her marriage vows very seriously, but lately she is just so depressed and disillusioned with her marriage.  She finds herself blaming her husband for their financial disaster.

She says, "I do believe that the husband is the head of the household, but I think with our finances we got a little bent out of whack.  He's kept a lot of this mess from me, to the point that I'm almost totally ignorant of the amount of our debt.  But I know it's because he didn't want me to worry on top of caring for our young kids.  But I asked him and asked him to let me know what was going on, and he said he would bring all of our bills home so I could see them, but never did.  So I guess I'm feeling resentful about that.  He ended up being out of work for 2 months and that REALLY hurt us."

She says, "I just see him being frustrated and worried all the time and worry for his health.  I even encouraged him to look into another career, something more stable and not as stressful, but he always said he's too old and doesn't know anything else.  At night when he comes home, he hardly spends any time with us, and usually falls asleep on the couch watching TV.  I guess this really bothers me too, as I would like him to spend some quality time with the kids and me too.

I'm also feeling like this is my fault because I've been a stay-at-home mom, working at small jobs while raising our kids.  I can't help asking myself if I should have gotten a full-time job with benefits to help with the finances instead of leaving it to my husband.

I've been trying to give it all over to God, and trust in Him that it will work out according to His will, but it's very hard.  My husband seems to think that bankruptcy is God's will, but I don't agree.  And, if we sell our house, I have no idea where we would go.  I really think this has affected all aspects of our marriage.  I love my husband, but feel that I'm not in love with him anymore, and have no physical desire for him.  Sometimes I feel more like his sister or buddy than his wife.  How can I fix this as a Christian woman?

I would greatly appreciate any advice and prayers from you!  Thanks and God bless."

Pray that this couple with God's help will work out a plan to help them out of this financial crisis.  Pray that they will know that it's ok with God if the wife works outside the home to help the family through this financial crisis.

Pray that they will have wisdom to know whether to file for bankruptcy.  Pray that she will forgive him  for their financial situation.  Pray that she will realize that a husband's greatest burden and desire is to provide for his family.  And that he most likely tried his best to provide for the family.  Pray that she will understand his desire to provide for her and that she will encourage him and tell him how much she appreciates all the hard work he has done in the past.

Pray that she will understand that because of world wide greed, the stock market went up to artificial levels, and that when the bubble popped, it caused the economy to go into a tail spin.  And then after September 11th, either as part of a conspiracy or because of fear of retaliation, it has been reported in the news that Arabs and Muslims have withdrawn more that 300 billion dollars out of the America.

And so now, the economy is recovering from this, and many other families and individuals are also experiencing very difficult financial times.  Pray that she will understand that a big part of their finiancial problems were most likely out of her husband's control.  Pray that God's will, will be done in our on-going international crisis.

Pray that her husband will realize that it's better to work finances in close cooperation with his wife, and have agreement on financial issues.

Pray that God will help this couple to feel close and in love with each other.  Pray that they will read their Bible together and pray together to ask God to help them through this time.

Pray that God will use the stories on this site in their intimate life to help them enjoy each other so that the emotional bond of love and forgiveness that God has ordained to come from marriage intimacy can draw them close together once again.

Pray that the whole family will grow closer to each other and to God during this stressful time.
