Choose a Code Word

Every married couple should have a code word between them to help in tough situations. My husband and I use the word broccoli, but it can be any random word. We use it in public and no one knows what we are talking about, but it really helps prevent arguments and hurt feelings.

When one of us feels insulted or wants the other to stop a certain action we simply say broccoli. The code word is respected and the other spouse must stop the action or words immediately. This really helps in a lot of situations. I’ve even been known to use broccoli to tell him I was serious when I said, “Stop tickling me!”
