Vows for St. Valentines Day

I am a Justice of the Peace and thought I'd share the vows I'll be using for a wedding I'll be officiating at on Feb.14th.

Feb. 14, Valentine's Day.
Can you think of a better day to start to share your life with the one you love?

At this time I would like you both to light a candle. These candles represent your lives as two separate individual people.

While you are lighting these candles I would like you to think about this.

Marriage is not only a commitment between lovers; it is also an agreement between two friends.

Allow each other time to be an individual, respect each other's wishes as well as their dreams.

Have you come here freely and without reservation to give yourselves to each other in marriage?

Please join hands.

God, angels, humans and all God created creatures, please join with us on this happy day and let this be a day of gladness, thanksgiving, possibility, and good fortune for _______________ and ______________, you are here to demonstrate and celebrate your love. We all live in the hope of loving and being loved. Love is a miraculous gift, and a wedding is a celebration of that magic.

This service is to consumate a relationship that already exists. It is time for tying a knot in the rope of days and saying, "We will not slip
backwards from here, but will go forward together." It is a time for one thing of which you are certain, your love for one another and your desire for that love to last
forever.

Groom, do you take this woman whose hand you now hold, choosing her alone to be you wedded wife?
Will you love her, comfort her, treat with kindness, understanding and respect throughout your lives?
Bride, do you take this man whose hand you now hold, choosing him alone to be you wedded husband?
Will you him, comfort him, treat with kindness, understanding and respect throughout your lives?

Groom, please repeat after me,
I ----, take you ----, to be my wife/ I promise to be true to you in good times and bad/
in sickness and in health/ I will love you and honor you/ all the days of my life.

Bride, please repeat after me,
I-----, take you, -----, to be my husband/ I promise to be true to you in good times and bad/
in sickness and in health/ I will love you and honor you/ all the days of my life.

Using the candle you have already lit, together, light the Unity candle, as a symbol of your lives together as one unit in marriage.

From every human being there rises a light that reaches straight to eternity.
And when two souls that are destined to be together find each other,
their streams of light flow together, and like this unity candle,
a single brighter light goes forth from their united being.

  Rings
Let these rings symbolize the devotion and commitment each holds for the other.
These rings, given in love, are a testimony that ---- and ----- are truly joined together as husband and wife.
         ----, repeat after me,
With this ring I thee wed/ and with all my love I thee endow.
         ------, repeat after me,
With this ring I thee wed/ and with all my love I thee endow.

You have exchanged your promises and given and received tokens in my presence.
By these acts and the powers vested in me by the state of New Hampshire you are now husband and wife.
Please seal your marriage with a kiss.
