Stress Free Marriage

My husband and I wanted a stress free wedding and honeymoon where money was not the issue and fight of most marriages.  I was watching TV one day and a talk show came on and while I was watching it they asked for show ideas and my head went into overdrive and before I knew it I grabbed the phone and called the show with the idea of marriage and romance on the show. I proposed that my fiancé and I were to be married on the show as well as some romance ideas and maybe some couples proposing marraige.  That set the ball rolling because they loved the idea!!

First they called me and told me that they loved the idea and asked if my fiancé would love the idea too and I said he would most likely like the idea too. They called my fiancé and he said that he would agree to the idea too and then he called me after they did and asked if this was for real. I told him that I gave them the show idea and they went for it. There we had it; the greatest idea for a wedding!!

Heads were reeling banging and ideas were coming out!!  I went to local bridal shops and I found one that would give me a tux for free and a gown at a drastically reduced rate for their name to be advertised on the show credits. I got a beautiful $2000 gown that only cost me $300 and found some silk shoes at another bridal place cheap (as they gave me a discount too) and I was ready style wise as the gown fit like a glove and no altering needed!!  As luck would have it, my husband somehow found a mans wedding band in our driveway;-talk about fate and luck, and I got my wedding band at the local pawn shop (as time was scarce).

We had days to get things together and so many things to do.  We got the wedding license and we were ready to get married.  We were both pretty nervous about getting married on TV and in front of a whole audience of people we did not know. We did a couple of rehearsals and then they said we were ready to do the taping and that we should go get ourselves ready.  They did my hair and make-up and helped me with my gown as well as they helped get my fiancé ready as well (they really do have a room called the green room).

I was so overwhelmed when I finally saw my fiancé after not seeing him for a while and we wore regular clothes to introduce us to the world as we went out and gave our story of how we met and that we were finally ready to get married on TV in front of all to see. When we were done with our story we left the stage and got ourselves ready in our formal attire as we waited for the other couples and the things they were doing on the show.  This was it, and the time was now ours, for myself to walk down the isle of the audience and meet with my fiancé at the stage and promise ourselves. As I walked down the isle down through the audience everyone was staring at me and I felt so nervous and thought I might trip so I was really watching my step and as I, was I noticed how handsome my fiancé was standing there waiting for me.  His eyes were fixed on me. I felt so special at that moment.

I got to the stage and my fiancé smiled at me and we began with the ceremony. The show had gotten a Jamaican minister and his voice was so hip and cool and it relaxed us more (but the minister too himself was nervous about TV and all). The ceremony was wonderful and we said our own vows and we said our  "I dos" and we kissed the most passionate kiss and smiled and then the show host told us then (which we didn't even know) that they had a honeymoon for us at the "Deerhurst Resort" in Muskoka(Ontario) at a five star resort. We were ecstatic!!

We stayed a night in Toronto and the show had given us each a $50 bill for whatever after the show. We caught a late night dinner with our maid of honor and best man (my husbands best friend and his wife) and sat and ate and discussed the show and how we were now husband and wife.  We had our wedding reception two weeks later in which we played our wedding on a VCR and TV for our guests to watch and we walked out in our gown and tux as if we were just married that day.  It was a great reception and with no stress at all.

We had our honeymoon a couple months later and I think this was one of the best ways to get married and one of the less stressful ways to do it. You ask what show we were on; well it was called "The Camilla Scott Talk Show" and was aired in 1996-1997 and the show didn't last but we sure have as we celebrate 8 years of marriage this year.  We were married on Feb. 6/96 and the show was aired for Valentines Day (we celebrate both days) we spend most anniversaries in Muskoka!! Love can come in many ways. Money should never be an issue as we spent only $2000 on our reception and $500 on wedding!!
