Marriage And Compromise
A marriage is made up of two people. A husband and a wife. These two people are not always at the same level of spiritual maturity. Many times one of them is mature spiritually and the other is immature spiritually.
When this happens, it is the responsibility of the mature person in the marriage to keep the marriage healthy. God cannot help the immature spouse grow spiritually if the mature spouse loses respect and becomes bitter towards the immature spouse.
Christian married couples should be willing to compromise with their spouse in areas that are not clearly spelled out as sin in the Bible. They should error on the side of trying to save their marriage and try to appease their spouse. Why? Because that is what love would do – “love covers a multitude of sin”.
Abraham asked his wife Sarah to pretend like she was his sister and Sarah lived in the king’s house and Abraham became rich from all the gifts the king gave him, until God intervened and told the king that the woman he was living with was really Abrahams wife.
God did not condemn Abraham or Sarah for this even though it is obvious it was wrong. But this is an example that shows God can intervene if we are willing to keep our spouse happy and compromise if necessary.
So what about watching a pornographic movie when your husband wants you to?
My advice is to compromise with your spouse if it is necessary to save your marriage.
Ask your spouse to help you study in the Bible what God thinks about the area you disagree on.
Ask your husband to click here and read this article which explains why Christians should not watch or read some erotic material.
Ask your husband to click here to see why erotic material causes an increase in sexual desire.
And ask him to click here to see how moral erotic material may be a solution that can help him be happy with you in your marriage.
Ask God to give your husband wisdom on the matter.
Ask your husband to sit down with you and look at the pros and cons of the area of question.
Ask your husband to click here to see how God would like married couples to live.
Keeping respect and love for each other is a necessary ingredient for being used as a couple for God.
God wants us to set aside the encumbrances that so easily beset us and run the race of living for Him without a lot of baggage.
And keeping your marriage relationship healthy is the way God can use you the most for His honor and glory!
There is nothing that weights down a marriage more than an unhappy relationship between the husband and wife. The devil uses this more than anything as a way to stop God’s people from doing anything.
