Why Some Marriages Don’t Work Well
Marriages don’t work well when a husband and wife do not have a mutual respect for each other.
It might start out this way. One is selfish and doesn’t respect anyone because they are so selfish. And so after the honeymoon wears off they treat the other one with a lack of love and caring.
The other one forgives and is hurt many times but after years of being treated unfairly they lose respect for the selfish one.
Once neither one respects the other, they are rude and uncaring towards each other.
The good news is that as they get older they tend to mellow out sometimes and be less selfish. But the bitterness from the past usually keeps them from being able to forgive each other and so they continue to fight until they die or get divorced.
Some times one of them may realize that while their spouse is at fault too, they themselves are at fault. If they are willing to risk taking the blame and being loving towards their spouse over a period of time, their spouse will usually respond and begin to be kind and loving towards them.
To complicate matters if their spouse has encountered failure in their life such as a failed career, or not realizing their childhood dream, or a physical handicap, they may be bitter towards life itself. So even when their spouse is loving and kind, they find it very difficult to be happy and cheerful.
If only they could be thankful to God for the spouse we have and not focus on failures and on the past.
If people would realize that this life is just a testing ground for eternity and that if they would only get their heart right with their created – God and be thankful for the breath that God gives them every day, and if they would begin to minister to their spouse by loving them and being kind and cheerful that God has eternity planned for them in heaven, and if they would begin to pray and thank God and begin to study the Bible and live a life pleasing to God, God would bless them.
