Little Miracles
Sometimes faith creates those every day miracles in our lives that others just don't get to see. I am a person who often has to rely on my faith on the Lord every day to raise up my children. And sometimes God shows me he is aware of my efforts every day in building up my family's faith in humanity.
One day my teenage son and I were nonchalantly driving down a backwoods road in the suburbs near our home when all of a sudden I noticed that my Jeep Cherokee was behaving in an erratic manner. I pulled over into the dirt shoulder on the side of the road. My son Peter and I stepped out to take a look at what had happened. I was already in a hurry trying to get home before the younger children got off the bus.
The left side of the Cherokee was dipping down and we noticed we had a flat tire. I was so grateful my son was with me and could help with the tire. I wasn't as self-assured about changing tires, even though my husband had once shown me. We immediately opened the trunk and got out the jack. We were dismayed when we realized that the jack was too small and the car's angle made it dangerous and precarious for us to try to change the tire.
I was worried that the children would be coming home and we would not be there. Even though I had taught them to go to the neighbors', I knew that my daughter would be worried and distressed.
I bowed my head and said a quiet prayer asking our Heavenly Father for help. As we were puzzling the problem over a car-started coming down the this quiet road. The young man in the car immediately stopped got out to investigate the problem. He immediately saw the problem and looked at our jack and said, "That's not going to solve the problem. I'm a mechanic. I live close by let me go get my professional jack and help you out." I was amazed at how quickly the Lord had answered our prayer. The young man returned just a few minutes later and before I had time to be anxious he had changed the tire and sent us on our way. I could not thank him enough. Now I wish that I had taken his name and number. He did not seem to want the praise I was giving him.
I believe that I was able to be an example to my son to the power of prayer. But not only that my son was able to see that there is good in humanity. One of the best things we can teach our children is by example, to do as I do.
