A sense of humor

Have you noticed that when single people list qualities they're looking for in another, they virtually always mention a sense of humor? It seems universal. I'm not sure each time whether they mean just a responsive sense of humor or also the creative sense of humor that says funny things, but it's obvious that humor in a person has great appeal.
There's something about laughing together that is so bonding. Somehow it strengthens the tie between two people. It also can indirectly give promise of the ability to get through the tough experiences together; if we can still laugh, we can make it. And, too, it's just stimulating being around a funny person. Life could be much more interesting and more bearable if I'm united with someone who has a sense of humor.
I've begun to realize that one's humor reveals important things about him or her. If he or she is very quick with a funny response, that tells you something. If the person tends to be sarcastic or pokes fun at others, that tells you something. If the person's humor is often at his/her own expense, that tells you something. If the person is willing to laugh and joke about
things you hold dear, that tells you something you need to know. It's worth noting not only that a person has a sense of humor but also what kind, and sometimes, what might be behind it.
I met a couple in which the man was bright and clever and funny, but his humor tended to have a bit of an edge to it. His wife did not look like a particularly happy woman. I've also seen couples where the two had gentle yet funny humor, and their happiness together was plain.
Laughter can be great fun; it's also a big picture window into who we are. We singles can both enjoy it and take note.
