Study her
This creature called Woman is a beauty and a delight (often, at least), but she sure is mysterious. Since she admits there are moments when she doesn't even understand herself, then the creature called Man needs all the help he can get.
Hey, guys, study her. "Study" doesn't mean in this case the way you would for a test, or the way you would with an opponent in sports, or even the way you would with a favorite hobby. No, here, the objective is unique.
There are lots of ways to study Woman, and if there's a particular woman at this point, then her, too. Look at what Woman reads (books, magazines); crawl under a table to peruse it if you're feeling self-conscious. Look at what stories Woman likes in a movie, and try to figure out why; there might be more going on than you realize. Notice what songs Woman likes, and again, why. Find helpful reading that talks about her and gives you deeper insight, whether written by a man or a woman. Perhaps most important, listen, listen, listen to her. Look her in the eye and listen to what she is saying, and maybe to what she is almost saying but not quite. All of this is very much worth doing.
I'm being a bit silly talking as if she were some sort of lab specimen.
She's not. She's a person. But I urge you to take opportunities regularly to learn about her, to where you can at least begin to see things from her point of view. Is it so you can more effectively negotiate what you want with her, or manipulate or control her? Not at all. It is so you can love her with understanding, which is good in and of itself. I don't mean loving only the woman you might end up with as a wife, though that would be especially important. Let's try to love them all with understanding.
