little things can mean a lot
The little things that a man and woman do for each other can mean at least as much as the bigger, flashier things. I'm not sure why this is; it may be because little things convey sincere, steady devotion in a way that big things can not quite do. Little things say, "I think about you lots, and I watch you closely to see what you'd like or need."
For a brief time in college I dated a sweet girl who showed imagination in what she did for others, including me. One school-night evening near the end of the spring term she came and got me away from studying, blindfolded me, and took me on a drive. She stopped the car and led me a few steps from the vehicle and then took off the blindfold. There we were, standing in front of a blackberry bush she had found. She then produced two bowls of melting vanilla ice cream with spoons. We picked and added some blackberries and, in the warm, late spring air, stood and enjoyed a great treat.
This might not sound like a big date, since it only took a few minutes, but many years later I still remember this little surprise more than other things we did together because of how simple and different it was, and because of how cute she was about it. I hope that if and when there is the chance, I will do small things for another, both attentive and inventive.
