Spiritual Growth
As Christians we all want to grow spiritually. We want to be closer today to how God wants us to be, than we were yesterday.
And then, as Christians we want others to know the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.
So how can we accomplish these goals in a busy day? Here are some ideas.
1. Read a little of your Bible and pray in the morning alone and try to have devotions and always pray together with your spouse at night. Thank God often during the day for how the day is going.
2. Don't complain or criticize unless what you are going to say passes all three of the questions: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
3. Carry gospel tracks with you and hand them out to people you meet at the grocery store, friends at work, and everywhere you go. If the people you give the tracks to begin to talk to you about God, don't miss an opportunity to share your testimony of how God saved you and has blessed your life. If you don't know how to present the gospel, visit www.evantell.org and read or purchase some of their materials.
4. Because you know God wants you to be content with what you have, decide that you will manage your expectations. Don't expect much from your spouse and family so that you feel blessed when they do come through for you. This way you won't be complaining and emotionally upset when they don't live up to your expectations. If we all got what we deserved in life, we would all be in hell. So be thankful for anything better than that.
5. Find some way you can get involved serving God with some of your spare time. Teaching Sunday School or being a Deacon or Elder or working in some other way at church is good way. Volunteering time at the local rescue mission or at a Crisis Pregnancy Center is another good idea. Going door to door or to the mall and giving out tracks is another good idea. Go on short term missions trips. They will change your life forever.
6. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, so keep it in shape. Don't get fat; overeating is one of the lusts of the flesh. Exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep and eat healthy foods. Wear attractive and clean clothes and keep your home clean. You want to be your best for your spouse, family and the Lord.
7. Give to organizations that you believe are doing something for God. Don't give only to the church. God will hold you accountable for what you do with your money. Give to your church but also support organizations that are reaching the world with the Gospel and are ministering to the needs of others.
8. Don't give your money to an organization, unless the organization gives God the glory for the work it is doing. If God does not get the glory, then “man” is getting the glory. The Bible teaches, “The righteousness of man is like filthy rags to God.” Support organizations where God will get the glory for your donation.
9. Be thankful to God and to your family, boss, and friends for their contribution to your happiness. Be happy and cheerful and bubbly knowing your God is looking down from heaven, smiling on you and thinking – “My good and faithful servant.”
