Impressions of Sheila

Normally I stay far away from what I call "kooky Dames" -- women who seem just a little too eccentric and strange -- but I had to admit it had been a long time since I'd met a woman like Sheila. Sheila is a very pretty brunette with full lips, green eyes, and auburn hair. She doesn't wear much make up except for lipstick. In fact, she seems to be almost addicted to lipstick.

I met her at a party where she was entertaining the crowd with impressions of celebrities. I thought she might be a stand up comic and wanted no part of her. But there must have been something about me that she liked, because she kept coming over to me, trying to make me laugh. "I'm just not big on impressions," I said. I must have sounded pretty stuffy, not that I think about it, but Sheila wasn't offended. She has a very thick skin, I discovered. I kept trying to avoid her and she kept following me around in a manner that she probably thought was discreet. Or maybe my ego is a little large.

Anyway, by the end of the evening we found ourselves out on the patio, just the two of us, and began to talk. Now that she no longer had an audience, she could let the full flower of her personality, the warm, genuinely funny -- as opposed to hyper and hysterical -- side come through. I was mesmerized by her eyes. I realized I wanted to know her better.

We agreed to meet for coffee over the weekend. We met at a place on Saturday afternoon and the minute she came in she kissed me on the cheek. I wasn't aware until I went to the men's room later that she'd left a big smudge of lipstick on my face. I can't say it bothered me that much although I was a little embarrassed at how the waiter and busboy and several customers must have seen it. That was just the beginning.

When I got back to the table Sheila accidentally knocked over her coffee cup and the coffee sort of glided across the table and landed in the lap of my new pants. Luckily the coffee had cooled off quite a bit. Then we both got up at the same time and managed to bump heads, which I thought only happened in movies. But the conversation had been good, and Sheila hadn't been performing for an audience -- just talking one on one to me. I realized that I liked her very much, and was attracted to her.

Sheila was more aggressive than I was, however. We agreed to go to a party together the following week. It was her suggestion, of course. We decided to meet in the lobby of the building where the party was going to take place. I arrived a little late. Sheila was using the mirror by the elevator to apply lipstick. Bright red lipstick like she usually wore.

She squealed when she saw me and threw her arms around me. I was so startled that I backed away involuntarily. "Uh ho!" she said. "What are you afraid of -- my lipstick?" With that she proceeded to plant messy kisses all over my face. I could see my reflection in the mirror and there were huge, bright-red lipstick kiss marks on my cheeks, across my mouth, decorating my forehead, neck, and shirt collar. Just then the door from the street opened and about half a dozen people walked in for the party -- Sheila's friends. Sheila gleefully introduced me as "this handsome guy with my lipstick all over his face" as the women grinned and the guys clapped me on the back and laughed. Somebody said "When Sheila kisses 'em, they stay kissed!"

I couldn't extricate myself from Sheila so I rode up to the party and was ushered in the front door -- where there were dozens of people milling about -- still sporting all those red-hot lipstick prints! I managed to break away -- man, did I get a lot of grins from people -- and went into the wash room where I removed the evidence of Sheila's rather passionate kisses. I had to admit -- Sheila could be overbearing but she was sexy!

I couldn't get the lipstick off my shirt, so I had to endure many more comments throughout the evening, but after awhile I felt kind of proud to have Sheila's marks on me. She put on her usual show, but I saw how much joy it gave her to entertain, and how much people enjoyed her "act," and I have to admit I found her funny, too. And in the quieter moments she proved to be sophisticated, intelligent, and caring.

So after six months of dating -- and a few hundred impressions (of celebrities AND all over my face) -- I'm about ready to pop the question. Wish me luck!
