I Miss Back When...
I was on my way home from the bank this afternoon when the Tim McGraw song, "Back When" came over the radio waves. It's become a favorite of mine and I found myself listening in. As I listened, I realized that what he sang was true. That our country has not only left its roots of simple pleasures, but their Christian roots as well. Our country is sadly and steadily on a sharp decline.
As I listened to the lyrics, "when a hoe was a hoe" , "Coke was a coke" , "...when a screw was a screw" , I found myself turning over other sayings/occurrences that back then meant only what they were. There were no sexual innuendos, so crass meanings.
Think about it. Back then when a girl wore jelly bracelets on her wrist it was for fashion, not an invitation with color coded bands for oral sex, intercourse, French kissing, hand jobs and the like.
When our children went to school, we never worried about their education. We didn't give a second thought that our government's teachers would fill their innocent minds with distorted sex education, evolution, or their demeaning the foundation of our country and it's Christian leaders.
When we had placed the Nativity in our front yards at Christmas, there was never a thought that one atheist could become law unto himself and have it removed because it offended his lack of belief.
And what of our favored Christmas carols that are forbidden in public schools, because of the mention of God, Jesus, angels and the manger? And yet, isn't that what Christmas is all about? Where has our country gone wrong?
I'll tell you where. It's when they began removing Him from our schools, our churches, our stores, and our homes. He got in the way of their fun, their ideals, their goals and their will.
And then we wonder why so many terrible, frightening things are coming about in our wonderful free nation. We blame God for the lives lost in Asia, we blame God for the homeless out wandering the streets, we blame God for the lack of food on our tables when we are too lazy to get out and work, we blame God for the trials placed in our path.
But why should God open his floodgates of blessings on a nation that has turned its back against Him? We as Christians should fall on our knees and thank our majestic Savior for keeping His loving hand upon us, His children. Because without Christians in this hateful, lonely, cruel world...where would this world be?
