Helpful Books
I believe that to make a great marriage one should never stop trying to make it better. I am always researching ways to make our marriage and our family better. I have taken classes on relationship building from a local university as well as institutes of religion and even professional seminars. They were all very good. However, by far and away the most influential information came from two sets of books. Most likely you will have of one set or the other. Regardless, I encourage you to check them out from your library, or buy them and read them -- they are FILLED with great insights.
Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, by John Gray
This series explores and helps us understand the psychological differences between men and women and offers great examples how to improve communication between genders. There are several books in this series, all of them are great if somewhat repetitive.
The Five Love Languages, by Gary Chapman
This series reveals how everyone has a primary "language" in which they send and receive love. This was a HUGE eye-opener for my wife and I as we discovered that her primary love-language is words of affection while mine is touch. This discovery has made a major impact on our relationship and how we parent our children.
Sincerely,
Paul Maloy
