Healthy is Sexy

My husband and I are both very active and it has helped us stay very trim and healthy. Although I love him for many reasons, I know it enhances our lives with the confidence that health and "feeling sexy" bring. Neither of us are supermodels, but aspects of our lifestyle keep our bodies and relationship healthy. Here are a few tips that have helped us, and may help you!

For many years we have both practiced martial arts. These activities are not only fun, but are a great workout and teach important self-defense skills. I recommend trying to find an activity that you enjoy and if possible train with a class or group. This will require you to continue and push yourself. I have so much fun every time I train, and I love the feeling of being in shape. My husband and I will often have back-flip contests or see who can break the most bricks! (Ok, I know that is a little extreme :) )

If that is not really your thing, maybe a regular workout routine is. Cardio is important for loosing weight, however don't forget stretching and weight training! Many women are afraid of serious muscle development and as a result don't lift weights. In actuality, building muscle both makes you look skinnier (without actually loosing weight) and increases your metabolism. Chest exercises (like pushups) make your cleavage more defined. I have been doing intense weight training for a year (on par with many guys at my gym!) and I have lost 12 pounds and look leaner and smaller all around.

Of course diet is a very important part of this equation. It is important to find a diet that you can sustain. I have the hugest sweet tooth in the universe, so I try to find foods that will satisfy me without wrecking my diet. I eat lots of fruit, and also drink light, chocolate soymilk, which tastes like desert but it packed with protein. I make sure to eat lots and lots of fiber so that I feel full throughout the day. Of course, it is very important to eat many vegetables, lean meats, and dairy. Flax seed is an excellent food supplement because it adds fiber and fatty acids that help your skin look younger.

Healthy living is good for your marriage and good for you! I know that the benefits of my and my husbands will be many!

A reader says ... A lot of reps with fairly light reps will build muscle definition.  For a woman, toning the pecs may lift the bust.  Start with whatever weight allows you to barely do 8-10 reps.  When you can do 20, increase the weight.
