Dinner with the Captain
My husband and I were married in December. We chose to go on cruise to the Bahamas and enjoy the warm, sunny air. We were looking forward to the honeymoon of our lives.
We arrived on the cruise ship and noticed the large number of couples. I wondered if everyone was on their honeymoon and just as happy as we were. The first night we went to the Captains Dinner and searched for our pre-assigned table. As I approached the table, I noticed that everyone seated had a spouse except for one man. He sat across from me and as everyone introduced themselves and made small talk, I noticed that he wasn’t wearing a wedding band. I asked if he was traveling alone and he said yes.
My husband asked where he was from and he said Nebraska. As dinner was served the man started making comments about marriage and love. He asked how long we had been dating before we got married and seemed to interview the entire table. I thought he was just making conversation, but come to find out he had been stood up at the alter.
I looked at my husband in shock and I did feel sorry for the man from Nebraska, but was forever grateful when the Captain requested he sit with him the rest of the week.
