sweet dream
Troy and I met when I was 17, he was a friend of a friend and much older than I at 28. We said a few brief words that day but our lives went in different directions. He dove into work and hobbies and I married that next year and had two wonderful children, Karlie and Connor with my high school boyfriend. We heard about each other every so often through our mutual friends, and as the years passed we both grew into mature adults.
My husband at the time, and I, had married very young (at 18) and as we grew up together we realized how different we really were and decided we would be better off as friends. After 5 years of marriage we divorced and continue to raise our two children together, just in separate households.
A year or so later my friend suggested that her and her husband go on a double date with Troy and I, and to see how we would get along… he had never married and had no children either, a pure bachelor! Four years later we decided to try for a baby together and marry sometime before we got pregnant…well that didn't happen, we got pregnant much sooner than either one of us expected. Therefore we decided to wait until the baby was born to get married, instead of marrying while I had a “tummy”.
We had talked about having a wedding, but the thought made both of us nervous… our very different big families coming together and all of our friends and all the expectations of what everyone else would want for us… the thought didn't feel intimate, we wanted it to be able to relax and enjoy each other as we were being joined together.
Our daughter was six months old and time was passing so quickly, so I got online and searched for “northern California elopements”. I came across a wonderful site that was not only beautiful, but so very informative, Ema's ceremonyway.com. I talked to Troy about it and we decided to book the date on February 23, 2006. It was my grandmother's birthday and we were very close, she had passed away in 1995. Our daughter turned one the following week on February 28. Troy and I thought that we could marry on Thursday and surprise everyone on Sunday at the party!
Well, we made it almost all the way to February… we hit a snag by applying for our marriage license… we applied, and the county puts those announcements in the paper… unknown to us! The following Sunday we received several phone calls from family and friends…we were shocked at how many people read the paper!! So the news was out and we told everyone the plan. We would travel to San Francisco area with the children and one of our friends each, and celebrate our new life together.
We couldn't have possibly imagined how wonderful having Ema from ceremonyway.com do all our arrangements would be. She took all the stress that a bride and groom can have, and she just let us enjoy our time. Everything was more beautiful and touching than ever! We hold a special place in our hearts for Ema and all she did for our wedding day
