God always gives second Chances

Colette was a mother at the young age of 17. She married the man she had surrendered her precious virginity to at the age of 14. Despite her Christian upbringing, she was plagued with depression, as well as a hunger for the affection that she never received from her father, a workaholic.

During the most vulnerable time in her Junior High life, her friend introduced her to an older 17 year old "friend", who would supposedly be "just perfect for Colette". Colette was instantly enveloped with lust for this young man, as he was also for her. She wasted no time waiting for the soonest opportunity for him to make her a "woman". And so it began. The precious sacredness of what should have been the most holy, blissfull act of her life was lost, never again to be regained.

Colette struggled for three more years in an on again, off again relationship with this man. In the lows of her depression, she would gravitate back into his manipulative arms, so desperate for just a human touch, of which felt like momentary resurrection to the death that she felt inside. During youth group retreats, she felt the Spirit tugging at her heart to repent, change her ways, and come to the Living Fountain. She would start off with such courage and resolve to end the relationship once again, but, since she didn't put any effort into pursuing a deeper relationship with the Lord and His Word, her flesh once again would weaken, and just in time, he would hone in on her plummeting self-esteem and be right back at her door, offering a diamond necklace, to be placed upon her neck personally by him, which was followed by a neck rub, which ultimately led to her compromising what little modesty she had left. This time would be different, however, for the Lord had a plan. He would not allow his lost little sheep to wander off any further. Seven weeks from that night, she was looking on a monitor at a second, tiny heartbeat inside her body.

Pregnant!?! Ok, she thought. I'll just raise it on my own, without this man, whom I begrudge for "making me' compromise my standards again. Who needs this man who just uses me because I'm easy? Let him find someone else to give into him, while I raise this baby on my own, and wait for the "perfect man" that God will send me."

He, on the other hand, saw this as the perfect opportunity to prove his love to her. He admitted that at first, he had taken advantage of her, and used her, as well as not treating her the least bit like a gentleman should. He was 20 years old by this time, and had been a car salesman for two years, pulling in great money for someone his age. He offered her the chance to stay at home and raise their child if she married him, and even promised to start coming to church with her.

Colette has so much to consider in such a short amount of time, as she had also found out, just one week prior to her pregnancy news, that her parents were getting divorced. So all at once, she had to leave the Chrisian high school that she loved, and be uprooted from the home and family that she expected would be there to help her start her new life as a mom. The only real solution she could see, since she was determined to raise the baby, was to marry the man. She took what seemed like the easiest way out for the short term. She just needed security for the next year or so, long enought to have and spend a few months with the baby before having to start work. That would be the right time to divorce him.

Once again, God had other plans. He started answering the prayers that Coletted had prayed so often during the firt year of their relationship. Back when her heart was still tender enough towards him that she actually thought he would change. The last couple years, however, the prayers became less frequent as she would become more hurt and embittered towards him, and felt more and more used and angry towards herself for her sin, which she felt powerless to control. Those were the near forgotten prayers, of him becoming a man of God, one who is loving, compassionate, and trustworthy, with a teachable spirit.

Four months after taking their wedding vows, Colette delivered a baby girl, named Lily. She was suprised to see this man, who had always seemed to have a heart of stone, with a tear on his cheek. God was in the business of doing miracles, and Colette couldn't believe that she would see so many in one day: her recently divorced parents arm in arm by her side, beeming at the new baby, a wounded man with a heart of stone, starting to become a heart of flesh, and a tiny ball of noise and beauty, which would bring her a second chance at the life that she always felt she had no purspose for. God had forgiven this young, foolish couple of their sins, and had blessed them in their holy union, bringing them, for the first time ever, into a shameless and sanctified relationship with Himself.

Comments From Readers

A reader says ... God is good and His mercy endureth forever. He truly is the God of the Second Chance.

A reader says ... Thank you for this story, I know the LORD does this all the time. I also thought my prayers went unanswered. 20 years later, dozens of those same prayers were answered almost daily. What is comical, I forgot I had even prayed until they were answered. God didn't forget.
