A Formal Anniversary Dinner at Home
For our sixth wedding anniversary, I decided to surprise my wife with a romantic formal dinner at home. I set the table with candles and our crystal and china and sent her an invitation the day before which simply advised her to wear her black cocktail dress and arrive at our dining room for a special dinner at seven PM.
I spent the afternoon preparing our dinner and had everything ready when she arrived at the dining room. I greeted her in my black suit and tie as a table waiter with a white hand towel draped across my arm and asked her if I could show her to the dining table. I advised her that her husband had arrived and would be there in just a moment. Then I disappeared into the kitchen, dropped the hand towel and returned to the dining table and took my seat beside her as her husband. After some conversation, I excused myself from the table and returned to the kitchen to resume my role as the table waiter.
During the dinner, I kept changing roles back and forth from her husband to the waiter and I used the white hand towel draped across my arm as a sign of which role that I was playing at the time. She was always amused as I changed roles because I would use a different voice in my role as the waiter. I switched roles back and forth during the wine, appetizer, salad, main and dessert courses.
It was a delightful and memorable evening which we will always remember.
