I am submitting another intimate writing in hopes of obtaining another free subscription. To be honest, I have recently felt some of my old inhibitions about sex returning. It is great that you and your husband are enjoying a healthy sex life and that you have the freedom as a Christian to use moral erotic videos to help your marriage.  I recently was listening to Dr. Dobson interview Dr. Gary Smalley and Dr. Dobson asked Gary how Christian married couples are doing in the area of sex.  And Gary responded "frozen".    And so you and your husband are in the minority of Christians who have vibrant healthy sex lives.  I attribute the fact that Christian divorce rates are just as high as non-Christian divorces rates – I attribute this to the “frozen” sex lives of Christian couples.

And so this site is trying to help Christians learn the truth of what The Bible says so they can have happier sex lives and not argue about issues like porn and instead of ending up getting divorced – instead end up going out into the world and telling people about Jesus – like your husband does!  Amen!

It's great that your husband is committed to Evangelism!  Praise God!  You mentioned your husband finds himself, “lamenting that everyone in the store is ``broken`` and living on the margins.”  Yes I believe that Christians are partially responsible for many of those “broken” people out there who “live on the margins” and buy porn at the Adult video stories.  Why?  

There are millions of Americans who believe in God but don’t attend church because they feel it is ok to do something like use erotic videos to help their marriage and the church condemns them.  Or maybe they feel it is ok to have a glass of wine occasionally but the church condemns them.  Or maybe they have had an abortion and the church condemns it.  Or maybe they think it is ok to subscribe to Playboy and the church condemns it.  

Jesus talks about how we should not create man-made rules that people can’t keep.  He talks about this in Matthew 23.  Matthew 23 verse 4 says, “They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. “

When the church condemns something that God does not condemn, Paul called this “doctrines of demons”.  1 Timothy 4 verses 1 to 6 Paul says, “1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.”

Paul says, “For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving”.  Paul specifically refers to two things – food and marriage, but Paul also makes a general statement about “everything” that is received with thanksgiving to God.

The church condemning nudity started with Queen Victoria.  That is why we say we live in the “Victorian Age”.  The Bible never condemns being nude or seeing someone nude – assuming the person nude consented to letting people see them nude.  In Bible times nudity was common.  

So God does not condemn married couples for using erotic videos in their marriages.  Similar arguments can be made for allowing Christians to have a glass of wine.  And similar arguments can be made for not condemning women who have had abortions.  

Now what if the church is wrong on all these issues?  Then the church was a stumbling block to all those people out there who believe in God but don’t go to church and are pushed into lives of spiritual isolation and not serving God, because of the unfair judgment of the church.  

In Matthew 12:7, Jesus said, “If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.”  Jesus said that we won’t make that mistake and be a stumbling block by condemning people if we would understand that what God wants from Christians is that we please God by living to show people mercy, not try to please God by living a life of “sacrifice”.

In Romans chapter 2 verses 1 to 4 Paul explains this concept when he says, “1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2 Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?”

So Paul condemns Christians who judge others, because Paul says they are “show contempt” to God because they don’t realize that God leads people to change by showing them “kindness, tolerance and patience”.  

So Christians are being a stumbling block to millions of people when they condemn people for things God does not condemn people for – such as looking at nudity, having wine for dinner, having had an abortion, and things like that.  

So we need to proclaim the truth that God loves people and wants them to believe that Jesus is God’s son and that Jesus died for their sins and that we all are called to good works  and to show mercy.

What has happened with modern day Christianity, is that Christians get their feeling of holiness by keeping a set of rules and by condemning those who do not keep those rules.  Why?  Because we Christians don’t want to do the good works that we are called to do and so instead we build ourselves up by tearing down others, with our judgmental views.  

When I’m in a social group of Christian men, I know this is true because they either talk about hunting, golf, sports, or the new house, or the new car, or they talk about how bad the liberals are or how bad pornography is, or how bad planned parenthood is.  In Matthew 23 verse 15 Jesus warns that religion with lots of man-made rules results in a mess when he says, "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.”  Jesus goes on to say in verse 23, “you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness”.  So the important matters of the law are not porn, wine and abortion – those are not even in the law.  But rather the important matters of the law are justice (not enforcing justice but rather treating people fairly), mercy (being merciful to people), and faithfulness (being dependable to those you love and to God).

So I thank God for you and your husband. Pray that Christian culture will change.  Pray that Christian culture will see that we as Christians should be focused on good works, not on condemning everyone who does not keep our own personal convictions.  Why?  Because when we judge others for things God does not judge them for, Paul says we “show contempt” to God not realizing that they way God changes people’s hearts is through his “kindness, tolerance and patience”.  So most of those folks at the Adult Video store could get saved and be good Christians serving God with good works, if only we would not condemn them.  

In closing, when you think about it, it is sad that there aren’t any moral erotic videos to help Christian marriages.  Why aren’t there any?  Who said, ‘All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing’.  Since Christians are so against nudity, it has left unbelievers to run the porn industry.

And so when Christian married couples need help in their marriages they end up watching immoral story lines.  This can be a stumbling block to the married couples.  Many Christian couples will argue about whether they should watch them or not.  Others will feel guilty for watching them.  Some will watch them and they may create jealousy and think their spouse would cheat on them like the people in the video, since they liked watching it.  All these are stumbling blocks to the married couples.  But who is to blame?  Not the porn industry – they are non-Christians just doing what non-Christians do.  

The blame lies at the feet of those who make the rules for Christians.  That is what Jesus said in Matthew 23.  If the Christian leaders did not condemn nudity, then we would have Christian moral erotic videos for married couples to use to help their marriages.    The Christian leaders who condemn the use of moral erotic materials in marriages – they are the stumbling blocks that have caused Christian married sex lives to be “frozen” and for Christian divorce rates to be as high or higher than those of non-believers.
