Title: "What is the most important thing in life? " Author: Unknown
What is the most important thing in life? The most important thing in life is to seek God. Why? Because God rewards those that seek Him. Faith is believing that God will reward you when you seek Him.
Hebrews 11: 6 says, But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
How do you get faith if you find it hard to believe in Jesus? Romans 10 verse 17 says faith comes from hearing and hearing from reading or studying the Bible.
Why is it important to seek and find God?
Because someday God is going to judge people for how they have acted here on earth. In Romans Chapter 2 verses 6 to 11 the Apostle Paul says, God will give to each person according to what he has done. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.
So how do you find God? By believing in Jesus. If you believe that Jesus is God's Son and that Jesus came down to earth and lived and then died and paid the penalty for all the bad things you have ever done, then Jesus will give you His Holy Spirit and you will begin to know God. And you will also live forever and your sins from the past, present and future will be instantly forgiven.
So do you have to give up smoking, drinking and thinking girls are pretty? That is for you and God to decide. Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks on your heart. If you sincerely believe Jesus is God's Son and is up in heaven seated at the right hand of God The Father acting as your High Priest then you are saved.
The Bible teaches that once you believe in Jesus, that God will write His laws on your heart. You will begin to know right from wrong as you continue to seek God through prayer and studying your Bible.
Romans Chapter 2 verse 13 to 16, the Apostle Paul says, For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
When you believe Jesus is God's Son you enter into a covenant with God. This covenant is clearly defined in Hebrews 8, 10b to 12 where it says, After that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.
This new covenant is called Grace. When we believe that Jesus is God's Son and that He lived and died for us and that He came back alive after three days and that He is in heaven right now interceding for us before God the Father, then we are not under the Old Jewish law but under the new covenant of Grace.
So does this covenant have lots of rules like no drinking and no smoking and no looking at girls? No it does not have a lot of rules. If we love God with all our heart and we love our neighbor as ourselves and we continue to seek God through study of the Bible and talking to God, then God will mold us into the way He wants us to be. We don't need lots of rules, because God will write His laws on our hearts. That is Grace.
Can we still have fun and feed the desires of our flesh? Well our new purpose in life is to be useful for God. God knows we need to feed our flesh some. But God doesn't want us to live to feed our flesh. God only wants us to feed our flesh to the degree that it helps us serve Him better.
So what do you mean by feed our flesh? The Bible teaches us to love not the world and the things of the world and it teaches us to not live for the pride of life and the lusts of the flesh.
So what are all these things we are not supposed to do? Basically everything we have and do should be out of love for God or love for others. Does that mean we can't ever have fun?
No, some of the most unhappy people I've met in my life are those who do not have any fun because they impose lots of legalistic rules on themselves and on others because of their belief in God.
So how do we; not love the world and the things of the world; and not live for the pride of life; and not live for the lusts of the flesh; and still have fun?
It has to do with our perspective. It has to do with whether we really do believe Jesus is God's Son and that Jesus is alive in heaven. It has to do with whether we really believe that when we die we will go to heaven or we will just stop existing.
If we really believe in Jesus, we will begin seeking Him and begin living to please Him and these other things in life will only be used as tools to help us be better servants for Jesus.
Our focus will be on serving God and others and not on feeding the flesh. Will we still be able to feed the flesh? Yes, when we feel it would help us be a better servant of Jesus.
For example, we need to eat to serve God, otherwise we will die of starvation. We need to keep our bodies healthy to serve God so exercise, sleep and nutrition are important. We can serve God better if we are not stressed out so we need to take some time to relax. We can serve God better if we are sexually fulfilled so we should take time to have intimacy with our mate when we are married.
But we won't be focused solely on sports, porn, hunting, fishing, or anything that consumes lots of our time and energy and money. Instead we will be consumed with seeking God through prayer and studying the Bible and telling others and helping others.
We will spend time thinking about what it is that God wants us to do for him today and then do it.
We will spend time developing our relationships with our spouse and family and friends.
We will see our spouse, our family, our friends and our neighbors through God's eyes and really care about them.
We will ask ourselves what is the best way to spend God's money he has given us.
We will give our money to those ministries where God is doing something.
We will look at everything we have as a tool to be used for God our time, our money, our life, our possessions.
We will try to spend as much time serving God in a meaningful way as we do studying the Bible. This way we will not worship the Bible but rather learn from it and do it. We will be doers of the Word and not hearers only.
We will judge our self by God's standards in the New Testament instead of judging others.
We will find a way where we can serve God in a meaningful way by helping others not just being part of a self-serving system that does not reach out to the lost and hurting.
